This is a fantastic rare, life size antique french plaster baby, shop mannequin dating from about 1890. It would make a stunning addition to a vintage display.
The face of the mannequin is exquisitely pretty. It has red rosebud lips and beautifully hand painted brown eyes with long lustrous lashes and fine brows. It's gorgeous dark hair compliments it's eyes and is painted in thick waves against it's head. It sits unaided in a typical baby position. It's adorable chubby arms and legs are jointed and will move in to different positions. As one would expect the paint has distressed a little but overall it has survived the years in good antique condition. In the sitting position it measures approx :- 43 cm (17 inches) high x 24 cm (9.5 inches) wide x 30 cm (11.75 inches) deep. To preserve the baby's modesty, we have dressed it in the most adorable red knitted wool swimming costume and matching pop over, dating from the 1930/40's.
It fits it well and the baby doesn't want to be parted from it, so we will be including it. The suit is in good condition with just a couple of nibbles to the wool. A stunning rare antique baby mannequin to use to display clothes or to keep and treasure as part of a collection.Another divine brocante french find from la belle étoffe.
