A superb french antique mannequin in lovely antique condition circa late 1800s / early 1900s complete with original stand. The early mannequins were made of papier mache and are incredibly robust, this one complete with its linen cover. Anyone wanting one of these wonderful period pieces will doubtless know a lot more about them than i do but i will attempt to point out a few details.
Made by stockman of paris, in exceptional condition with all the stitching completely intact and no rips or tears anywhere. There are stains on the linen which i have not attempted to clean and the wooden frame with its metal reinforced legs has been treated for woodworm and given a coat of bees wax.One of the wooden arm discs has a piece missing but only noticeable from the side. It retains the original height adjuster which is stamped "stockman" and" paris" on the other side of the key. Many of these mannequins are mostly for shop decor due to their age and condition.
This one, however, could easily be put to use, such is its integrity. A fantastic shop display or purely as a stand alone decorative antique. More photos available on demand.Full height from top to bottom (lowest setting) 152cm (60). Bust 36 (91.5cm) approx. Weight less than 5 kilos. This item is made of wood, papier mache and metal.
